Instructions

In a mixing bowl, gently knead together 2 pound ground beef1 1/2 teaspoons kosher salt1 teaspoon black pepper, 1 teaspoon garlic powder, and 1 teaspoon onion powder. Be careful not to overwork the meat.

Separate the meat into 4 qual portions. Form into 4 patties about 1/2 inch thick. Press your thumb down on the middle to give it a slight indent.

Heat a large heavy skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat. Or, heat an outdoor grill to medium-high heat (400-450 degrees F). Make sure the grate is well oiled so the meat doesn't stick.

Heat a large heavy skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat. Cook burgers for about 5 minutes per side for medium, 6 to 7 minutes per side for medium-well, and about 8 minutes per side for well-done. Ground beef in the United States needs to be cooked to an internal temperature of 145 degrees Fahrenheit.

Let rest 5 minutes, or until internal temperature reaches 145 degrees.
