Maple Bacon Cheddar Biscuits

Ingredients

5 slices bacon (cooked, drained and diced)
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
4 tablespoons cold butter
1 1/4 cups buttermilk
2 tablespoons maple syrup
2 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons maple syrup

Instructions

Cook bacon in a skillet on top of the stove. Drain, dice and set aside. Whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, baking soda and cheese in a bowl.

Grate the butter into the flour mixture and mix till resembles coarse crumbs. Add in diced bacon.

Whisk together the buttermilk and maple syrup and add to the mixture. Pour the dough out onto a floured surface and knead 6 or 7 times. I used a two inch biscuit cutter and placed biscuits on an ungreased baking sheet.

Topping Instructions

Combine the topping ingredients of butter and maple syrup and melt in microwave. Brush on tops of uncooked biscuits.

Bake in preheated 425 degree oven for 15 to 20 minutes until tops are brown.

Makes 10 to 12 biscuits according to size you make them. Enjoy!
