Sauteed Green Beans with Bacon and Water Chestnuts

2 pounds fresh green beans (ends trimmed)
1 (8 ounce can) sliced water chestnuts (drained)
1/4 cup soy sauce
2 cloves minced garlic
1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions
Chop 16 ounces bacon into bite-sized pieces. In a large skillet, cook the bacon over medium-high heat until crispy, about 57 minutes. Remove the bacon from the skillet and drain all but 12 tablespoons of the bacon grease.
Add 2 pounds fresh green beans, 1 (8 ounce can) sliced water chestnuts, 1/4 cup soy sauce, 2 cloves minced garlic, and 1/2 teaspoon black pepper to the skillet.
Cook, stirring occasionally, for 57 minutes, until the green beans are tender but still crisp, and the soy sauce has reduced slightly, coating the green beans.
Return the bacon to the skillet and toss to combine. Remove from heat and serve immediately.
